A Metadata TuneUp - How Does It Work?
Metadata TuneUp takes a Publisher's ONIX metadata and reviews it for Best Practices, using a combination of human experience and AI to identify and correct errors that hurt your market visibility. Then we enhance those ONIX parameters that most effect title discovery in wholesale/retail data platforms, to help boost unit sales.
Are You Just Adding Keywords?
Absolutely Not! Optimizing ONIX goes far beyond keywords by correcting entries, filling in blanks, and suggesting market-savvy changes to market-data parameters. We look at every metadata field available to help you sell more print books and ebooks.
For example, when you mean this:
Permitted Sales Territories | Excluded Sales Territories |
WORLD | CA,MX,US |
We open ALL relevant world markets by making sure your ONIX reads like this:
> <Territory>
<RegionsIncluded>WORLD</RegionsIncluded>
<CountriesExcluded>CA MX US</CountriesExcluded> </Territory>
</SalesRights> <SalesRights>
<SalesRightsType>03</SalesRightsType> <Territory>
<CountriesIncluded>CA MX US</CountriesIncluded> </Territory>
</SalesRights>
<SalesRights> <SalesRightsType>01</SalesRightsType>
What Is The Value and What is the ROI?
On a per title basis, the cost of a Metadata TuneUp can be recouped by the sales of just 3-10 extra units beyond your current sales.
The process is scale-able up to 10,000 title records per review, yet very affordable for small publishers with smaller title lists.

What Do Publishers Receive?
We return a readable spreadsheet that Publishers can view, then you decide what suggested changes to approve. On approval we will create your updated XML file for distribution to all data partners.
You'll also get recommendations on best practices for metadata to use going forward.
How Can I Submit Metadata for TuneUp?
Metadata TuneUp accepts your ONIX title records in XML format or as an Excel spreadsheet. If your company uses its own standardized spreadsheet to input and/or view title metadata, we will work with and return the recommendations on your in-house spreadsheet template.
What Version of ONIX do you work with?
Our default is ONIX 3.0, but can work with older renditions if that's what you use.
Can you Update our ONIX 2.1 to 3.0?
Yes! We're happy to help you take advantage of the updated data points in 3.0.
